Color Management and Digital Workflow Masterclass

This class designed for the professional photographer will address the principles of color and color management, proper use of monitor calibration equipment, recommended color settings for Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, recommendations for a digital workflow specific to the professional needs.
Class Objectives:
- After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Express an understanding of digital color management for the digital photographer
- Demonstrate the use of color calibrating equipment for LCD monitors
- Express an understanding of Adobe color settings
- Utilize a digital photography workflow
Materials and Supplies
- Optional but recommended: Laptop with Lightroom and/or Photoshop
- External Hard drive with Firewire 800 or USB 2.0 connector

Color and color management (60 min)
- What is color and how do we see color
- Color communication between devices
- The ICC and profiles
- Color Spaces (sRGB, Adobe 1998, ProPhoto) and file types
- Color measuring equipment (30 min)
- Grey Cards / White Cards / Color Checkers
- Photometers and spectrometers
- Color metering
- Custom White Balance
Photoshop and color management (60 min)
- Color space and color settings
- Assigning and converting profiles
- Rendering intents
Digital workflow (90 min) From capture to output
- Camera color settings - RAW vs JPG
- RAW and JPG conversion - Bridge, Lightroom, Photoshop
- Master files
Activity:
